With today’s focus on results, all organizations need to take their performance system from strategy to practice. Performance management typically focuses on talent management. As talent management increasingly connects to the business plan, a bigger view of the larger organizational performance system is essential. Organizations that do this successfully have been frequent winners of the Baldrige Quality Award and out-performed the Standard & Poor’s 500 by 4 to 1 in longitudinal studies performed by the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST). These organizations have formalized planning practices that improved organizational performance, using measurements and results to align process improvements. The examples and performance results shared by Baldrige examiners Doug Serrano and Denise Haynes, Managing Partners at Quiet Excellence, LLC, and practitioners from Baldrige winning organizations Michele Serbenski, Vice President, Performance Excellence at Bronson Healthcare, and Bob Goehrig, Budget & Strategic Planning Manager for the City of Coral Springs, Florida, inspired others to apply a similar approach. |
