“Using a structured interview will help master these skills,” said Blair. Candidates should be compared to established benchmarks, not to each other, when completing an after-interview evaluation. Why? “the reason is pretty simple,” he said. “An average candidate looks good compared to a poor candidate. We don’t want average employees, we want the best.”

Blair explained that candidate to candidate comparison should only take place after all interviews have been completed and evaluated, and then the data from each interview can be juxtaposed.
