A tremendous $25 million dollar improvement in operating margin is evidence that at North Shore LIJ, talent management strategies can be tied to business performance. They are optimistic that by continuing to follow the proven principles of strategic performance systems they can achieve $50 million in savings. Joe Cabral shared their “lessons learned” as follows:

  • Processes need to be system-wide, cohesive and undiluted
  • There is no magic “pill” to improve Talent Management, rather a “road map” tailored to the organization’s needs and culture
  • Commit to a long-term process with culture change built in
  • Metrics need to be strategic not tactical
