All successful improvement initiatives depend on six phases and related questions each phase is intended to answer. When re-designing an onboarding process, beginning with diagnostics identifies existing shortcomings and drives the need for improvement. Interviewing all stakeholders about the results they want to achieve is critical to a good design. Desired changes and the return on investment, Mark Stein advised, are thought through in the “blueprint design” and “business case” phases. This is where senior management buy-in is critical.
