Best Buy aspires to be able to capture what people love and what they are great at in order to “inventory” their talent. This allows the company to deploy people in roles that best match their talents, skills and abilities and support what Best Buy needs to continue to prosper. The intersection of what the organization needs, what someone is good at, and what that person loves to do, is called “their sweet spot.”

In a webcast poll conducted by the Human Capital Institute, only 15% of respondents thought talent in their company were in their “sweet spot.” It left us wondering, what if everyone came to work one morning going to do the jobs (which the organization most needed) that people loved to do? If everyone did what they loved to do, they might be more motivated to teach what they were great at to others, engaging talent in development of human capital.
