Companies who review their progress as a talent-focused and learning organization can benchmark COP’s that develop and thrive over time, and those that continuously attract and retain talented professionals. For COP’s that align with company business needs and related talent development, smart organizations learn to accommodate communities of practice and contribute to their development. Learning in COP’s can be supported by managers who previously sent individuals off to a physical classroom for traditional training. Webcast presenters John Smith and Beverly Traynor concurred the focus today needs not to be on how to make training more efficient but how to make learning more effective. This fundamental paradigm shift changes the emphasis on training (and all that implies), to an emphasis on learning (and all that implies).
