EMC discovered when critical introductions were needed in the first 30 days, a number of the meetings would be cancelled by the veterans on board, not realizing the opportunity was intended to be more than a “howdy and a handshake” meeting. Interviews with executives who were with the company six months revealed they wished their first two weeks had been handled differently. New executives needed the reality gap closed to answer for themselves, “Is this the company and the job I thought I was hired to sign on for?” And even more so, they wanted to know “who are the key people I need to know?” before they needed to draw on those business relationships. |
